Words & Music

Doppio vinile

It is now over 20 years since The Beatles first took Britain, and then the world, by storm creating unprecedented scenes at airports, concert halls and press conferences  For eight short, crazy years their every movement, thought, word and whim were headline news. When they split up jn 1 9 70 the music business sat back and waited for their  successors totake over the same lofty heights. In 1 984 we are still waiting. Each year a new "phenomenom' is heralded as The New Messiahs of Pop - only to fade and become  Last Year's Thing.

But The Beatles' records still make the pop charts when rereleased, their films, now on video, are always in the Video Top Ten, books on the Merseybeat Era abound-that magical  period will just not go away.

As well as making great music, The Beatles as four individuals were possessed with a wit which delighted us all and in interviews we could always be sure John would create  hoots of laughter with some caustic aside, or that Ringo would lighten a hightening tension with some throwaway remark.

This album follows The Beatles from their early days in 1 961 playing 'live' at The Star Club in Hamburg through to their first (unsuccessful) studio audition for Decca in August  1 962 then on to the crazy, frenetic years of touring the world between 1964 and 1966 and their last, controversial American Tour in August 1966 when rumours abounded  about the Group's "imminent" split.

'Words Music" is just that: a document of the most exciting time pop music has yet seen and the most successful group the pop world has ever produced.
