Coin Holder The Beatles
12 coin holders with original display box
Manufactured by New Items Company Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio, these oval coin holders feature a snap-open design. Made of thick plastic/rubber, they measure 3“ x 2” (7.5 cm x 5.5 cm). Sold in red or black. The front features printed facsimile autographs of the Beatles, close-ups, and “The Beatles” .
The coin purses were sold on a 9½“ x 12½” store display stand with an easel base, containing 12 red or black coin purses in serrated slots. The top of the cardboard display read "Beatles Coin Purse - Opens With A Fingertip Touch. U.S. PAT NO. 3,063,487 Made in U.S.A.” along with an image of a hand easily opening the coin purse and coins falling out. Additionally, there was a blank, round price tag where the store owner could write a price, as well as a hole at the top of the cardboard for hanging the display.
During this period, a small vinyl coin purse measuring 4½2“x3” was also produced specifically for the film 'A Hard Day’s Night'.
Many reproductions of the coin purses were produced, available in various colors, including red, black, blue, and purple. They were made with square bottom corners and featured various designs printed in black on the front. This contrasted with the authentic coin purses, which had rounded bottom edges and original designs printed in white ink. The originals were made of very thick plastic, while the fakes are flimsy. The reproductions also feature a metal clasp under the vinyl cover to close the coin purse.
