The Beatles! - 4 Full Color Oil Portraits
Limited Edition Beatle Buddies' Club Members
Artwork by Lao Jansen
The “oil” paintings were created for the Beatle Buddies' Fan Club. The portraits measured 14“ x 17” and featured a painting of the band printed on a canvas-like material; they were created by artist Leo Jansen. Additional portraits were produced in 16“ x 20” and 9“ x 12” sizes. The item was packaged in a plastic bag with membership cards and a letterhead.
The retail counter display featured a 10“ x 14” x 7“ base, along with a 14” x 18" top panel depicting a photo of Pat Boone promoting “Beatle Buddies” and the promotional campaign he was running as a merchandising partner for the items.
“I saw the Beatles poster. It was wrapped in cellophane with an application attached to join the Beatle Buddies’ Club! The clerk explained to us that by purchasing a poster and joining the club, we’d be entered into a contest that could win us a trip to Hollywood to see the Beatles in person,” explains Chris Barnes, who came across the contest information in 1964 via his online blog.
The contest requirement was to submit the entry form, and winners would be chosen at random for a trip to the Beatles’ concert in Las Vegas on August 20, 1964.
